F.A.Q. — Premiere Requirements
Over time, this section will collect many ready answers to very common questions about working with Premiere, its compatibility with different computers, and related topics.
Why do some Premiere Pro versions have almost the same system requirements, while others differ much more?
Adobe works in mysterious ways))) In practice, it usually depends on new functionality.
Recently, more AI-based features have been appearing. Some of them run on Adobe's remote servers, while others run locally on users' computers. Those local features can add extra load and may require more powerful workstations than before. That is the price of progress :)
Why does the System Requirements page list versions from 2026 down to 2021, and then suddenly jump all the way to 2017?
Everything below 2021 is already too old. It will work, of course, but it may not support modern file formats, current plugins, and many conveniences that make everyday editing easier.
Because of that, I do not recommend installing Premiere Pro 2020 or older anymore. The exception is the 2017 version, which still works reasonably well on older computers.
Why do the official system requirements say one thing, while this site's check shows something else?
Because system requirements are what the developers officially declare. They are a kind of averaged baseline.
This site checks compatibility based on real experience with different Premiere Pro versions, different operating systems and many different computers. In practice, that lived experience can sometimes differ a lot from the official requirements. That is exactly why this site exists :)
